Why not join us at the great #EtsyMadeLocalUK Glasgow event in The Briggait on the 30^th November and 1^st December. Organised by the good people at the Glasgow Etsy team it is always a fun event with a fine range of quality items from local etsy sellers.

Gleaming Kist will be there on Saturday 30/11 with vintage accessories, costume jewellery and other special gift ideas, including this year, some wonderful vintage mirrors.

Stratton – Not Just Compacts!

It’s always a joy to find accessories for Gleaming Kist and I’m having a Stratton moment just now. I’m in the middle of photographing a few items to go into the Gleaming Kist Etsy shop in the next week or two.

Stratton are famous for their vintage powder compacts, but this English company actually produced a wide range of accessories.

It made me think back to some of the great Stratton pieces I’ve had in the shop over the years. Here’s a throwback to some including a cigarette case, lipstick case, cufflink and tie clip set, trinket box, note case and, of course, a compact!

Vintage Summer Jewellery

Here are some pieces, currently in the Gleaming Kist etsy shop, that are ideal to give a lift to Summer outfits. This pretty violet brooch by Exquisite catches the current trend for florals and brights. The yellow butterfly is perfect for Summer 2019 and I’ve even included a little sun brooch so that it will show up whatever the weather.

If Vintage Pieces Could Talk…

I think everyone who buys or sells vintage knows that part of its charm is the stories that come with the items. The lives they have touched, the owners they’ve had and the time and place they come from.

Another aspect of this occurred to me recently as an item went off to a very special destination and that’s the lives that you send them on to.

I’ve seen items that probably had spent blameless forgotten existences at the back of a drawer since the 1950s go to someone that loves them and will wear them proudly day in day out. I’ve seen pieces go off to glamorous new lives; the chique hat, unworn for 40 years, that finally make it to Paris in spring time. Other items find very high-end homes that the original owners could only have dreamed of. They are now rendered special by time and period.  

Over the next while I hope to introduce a few items here that have a special story to tell.
