Some Canny Scottish Words – C

Here’s the next in a series of occasional posts on Scots or dialect words commonly used in Scotland.

Cairn:  a stone pile used as a marker or monument, a Cairn Terrier is a small Scottish breed of dog.

Canny: in Scots usually means careful or cautious
Chuckie: (or a chuckie-stane) is a pebble
Corbies : crows
Couthie: comfortable, friendly, homely
Crabbit: bad tempered, grumpy
